About Us

The long cherished dream of the teachers and students of economics in Andhra Pradesh became a reality when the Andhra Pradesh Economic Association (APEA) was formed at a meeting of the Andhra Pradesh delegates to the64th Annual Conference of the Indian Economic Association held on 29-12-1981 at Tirupathi. At this meeting, the constitution of the Association was adopted. It was registered under the Societies Act of 1860 in May 1982 (Reg.No.120 of 1982, CTR).

It started with 20 life members and 202 ordinary members in 1982-83. It has now 600 life members from not only all parts of the state but also from other places in the country. It has been the endeavor of the association to involve large number of university and college teachers and research scholars with an intention of focusing local issues wherever the conference is organized. Though membership was confined mostly to the university teachers in the beginning, now it enmeshes affiliated college teachers as well.

Mission
The main objectives of the Association are

  • to act as a forum for ventilating views on contemporary issues on economic development of Andhra Pradesh.
  • interaction on economic theory as well as empirical work,
  • to make members abreast of latest developments in the discipline of economics.
  • to serve as a body to train young researchers in the field of economics and inter-disciplinary subjects.

The Association has conducted Annual Conferences regularly with the generous help from the Universities, PG Centres, and Affiliated Colleges from different parts of the state. So far, we have covered most of the districts in the State. Three themes are chosen for deliberations at each of the conference on issues of contemporary importance pertaining to Andhra Pradesh. On an average, about 60 to 80 research papers are presented at each of the conferences. We are indeed happy to note that members have been showing interest in presenting the papers at the conferences.

The participation rate, though fluctuating, ranges between 80-150. The conferences are held for two days. With the state financial support, the Association was able to bring out conference volumes from 1984 to 1994. However, in the recent past, we are able to bring out printed conference volumes with the financial support from the host organizers since 2001. In addition, the Association is organizing pre – conference Seminars on current issues from 2003.

And on the eve of this, the A P Economic Association Trust and the Silver Jubilee Lecture are instituted by an eminent economist of National repute during the Annual Conference.
